Watching a movie beneath a starry sky is a pretty unbeatable date night. Not only can you bring your own snacks (and booze), but you can also snuggle up to your date in a truly romantic and retro setting that’s basically Instagram heaven. So fill up your cooler with beers and Red Vines, pack a cozy blanket, and surprise your boo with a night out at the cinema!
WEST WIND CAPITOL 6 DRIVE-IN (SAN JOSE) There’s nothing quite like watching a film on the big screen, and for less than $10 a ticket, you can do just that at the West Wind Drive-In in San Jose. I get it, Netflix & Chill (is that still a thing?) is nice too, but there’s something about the satisfaction of pulling up, throwing your car into park, and reclining your seats a bit that can’t be replicated from the couch at home. West Wind is family-owned and operated, and they’ve really stayed on top of their game when it comes to incorporating upgrades—not only are their movie screens much larger than those you’d find in typical walk-in theaters, but you can even stream the film’s audio through your car’s stereo!
SOLANO DRIVE-IN (CONCORD) If you’re the type that likes to talk during a movie (eh hem, like me), then a drive-in movie theater is definitely your jam. Simply roll up the windows and chatter away while you watch. You can also lay the seats down flat, throw a couple of pillows and a blanket over them, and pop the trunk while you watch a flick at the Solano Drive-In. Plus, Tuesday nights are Family Fun Night, and that means tickets are half-off!
MOVIES ON THE SQUARE (REDWOOD CITY) It may not be a “drive-in” per se, but it’s still an outside under-the-stars viewing experience. Every Thursday evening from June through August, you can catch a FREE flick in downtown Redwood City on Courthouse Square. So grab some takeout and head to the square for a fun night out. A little piece of advice, head to the square a bit early to secure a good viewing spot.
